Composting
Composting was introduced to the girls of Chetpet . Mrs Radhika Subramaniam from Daily Dump gave a talk about why composting is a need for todays society. She covered topics like how garbage is a big issue leading to many health and global issues. The girls understood how important and easy it is to do composting.
They were given a small Kumba as a gift by Mrs. Radhika and instructed in the ways of composting a small quantity of vegetable peels alone. This was done to see if the girls will be interested to continue it. It would help them to see the final product which motivate them to continue this process in their lives.
The girls of 8th grade showed a lot of interest and enthusiasm to do composting on a daily basis. Radhika was pleasantly surprised with their work as the final product came out without a hitch. The quality of the manure which comes out should resemble tea leaves used for making tea. There was absolutely no smell.
The manure is used for gardening. Since on a daily basis they cook Vaishnavi trust decided to gift them bigger leave it pots to compost all the vegetable peels they churn out.
